DIY Nesting Box Shelves

Today’s post is a rather short one, but I wanted to share my idea with all of you! We recently purchased a new washer and dryer and I thought it was time to give our laundry room a face lift. Our laundry room is located in the basement and was rather dark and dreary. A new coat of bright paint made a huge difference – but my main project was the shelves. I had this brilliant idea that I was going to make shelves out of some old nesting boxes (Because everything in our house must be chicken themed).

Finding the nesting boxes was quite a task. I wanted them to look old and rustic so I refused to buy them brand new. My husband offered to build me brand new wood shelves, but that was not what I pictured for this project. I looked at some local antique stores but they wanted hundreds of dollars for them. I finally located a set on a farm swap group on Facebook for free. (If you are not yet a part of local farm swap groups on Facebook – I highly recommend joining a few. They are a great resource). Now, these nesting boxes did need a little love. I had to remove some old paint that had spilled on them, and had to replace some missing rivets. My husband installed the nesting boxes with some heavy duty hardware and voila! Perfect DIY nesting box shelves! I am really happy I stuck to my guns and followed through with my vision.
