We recently did a massive expansion on our chicken coop/enclosure and I wanted to share our progress with all you like-minded chicken people out there! I have included the full length video if you want to listen to me ramble on about our beloved backyard flock.
If you would prefer to skip the full length video then I will include some photos for your viewing pleasure.
Here you will see coop #1. This is where the older flock resides and where I keep the grain buckets. My absolute favorite feature is the Omlet Auto Doors that we have installed. The automatic doors are light sensitive and will open at sunrise and will close at nightfall. I have peace of mind knowing that my feathered friends are secured for the night even if I’m not home to lock them in.
Now, on to coop #2. Our younger pullets and our turkey tend to roost in this smaller coop as to avoid bullying from the older hens. Their roosting bars are made from an old wooden ladder that was laying around. We try to recycle as much material as possible when building new things for our animals.
The enclosure that surrounds our chicken coops is all chain link fence that we picked up from the scrap yard where they charged us per weight. It ended up being much cheaper than if we purchased chain link by the foot. We also installed bird netting across the top of the entire enclosure to prevent hawks from getting in from above.
