For The Flock

DIY Automatic Chicken Waterer

Are you sick of filling up your store bought 1-2 gallon waterer multiple times a day? So was I. Turns out there is a super easy solution! And I mean super easy. No husband assistance was needed (I usually have reservations about using power tools unsupervised).

What You Will Need:

1.) A 5 gallon bucket (Or any size bucket really. I’ve seen others use 50 gallon drums for much larger flocks)

2.) A drill

3.) 3/8″ drill bit

4.) These Automatic Chicken Water Cups by RentACoop

Instructions:

1.) Measure and mark 1″ from the bottom of your container.

2.) Create holes using a 3/8″ drill bit.

3.) Screw in the auto-fill cups into the drilled holes. Attach wingnut to the exposed threads on the inside of the container.

Helpful Tips:

1.) Watering system must be hung or placed on the edge of a stand to ensure full extension of the cups so that the cups do not tough the ground. Works best if top of cups are level with your animals’ shoulders.

2.) Remove all old water sources in order to train your flock to use the new watering system.
